De Staat have signed with V2 Records and are releasing their new single ‘THE KING’ today

After a two-year hiatus, Nijmegen-based art-rock band De Staat are back with new material. With new music, an art installation and a conceptual live show entitled De Staat Becomes De Staat, they are marking nearly 25 years of groundbreaking work in the rock scene. The new material will be released in collaboration with V2 Records.

Coverart ‘The King’

Themes such as power, manipulation, misinformation and autocracy have featured in De Staat’s work before. This new concept takes the band, literally and figuratively, to a higher level. With ‘THE KING, they set the tone straight away: direct and confrontational, with tribal drums, thumping keyboards and industrial guitars. ‘THE KING’ is about the eternal and destructive cycle of power. The rise, the conquest, the fall – and then it all starts again. And again. And again.

The upcoming live show “De Staat Becomes De Staat” is being developed in collaboration with director Floor Houwink ten Cate (*Battlefield of Dreams*, Brabo Leone), contemporary audiovisual artist Boris Acket (Joep Beving, Fred Again..), lighting designer Freek Ros (Wende, Altın Gün), visual artist Tarik Barri (Thom Yorke, Nicolas Jaar) and audio designer Reinier Rietveld (Craigie Horsefield). The highly topical concept resonates as never before with today’s dystopian fears. Dates Below.
