Thomas Dybdahl Unveils An Emotional Remembrance of Adolescence in 'Teenage Astronauts'

Renowned Norwegian singer-songwriter Thomas Dybdahl announces the release of his highly anticipated project, "Teenage Astronauts." A soul-stirring exploration of the intense nature of adolescent relationships, “Teenage Astronauts” shares deeply introspective lyrics amidst enchanting musical arrangements.

Dybdahl, celebrated for his distinctively soulful voice and poignant songwriting, draws inspiration from personal experiences to craft a musical narrative that delves into the complexities of growing up. The project is a heartfelt tribute to the friends who shaped his world during the turbulence of adolescence and an emotional remembrance of those who, metaphorically, broke through the atmosphere and never came back down. The lyrical prowess of collaborator Edie Kuhnle Ottestad adds a passionate depth to Dybdahl's musical canvas. Ottestad shares her perspective stating, “Soon after I moved to Stavanger with my family for the year in 2018, Thomas told me he wanted to write an album about male friendships. My then eighth-grade son was experiencing an uncharacteristic episode of depression, and my beloved Norwegian father-in-law was nearing the end of his life. Between my son’s adolescent confusion and my father-in-law reminiscing and sharing stories about his boyhood, I approached this project as a way to process the major male milestones that I was witnessing and experiencing alongside two people I dearly loved.”

The musical journey of "Teenage Astronauts" was further elevated with the addition of acclaimed producer Larry Klein and Grammy-winning composer Vince Mendoza. Klein reflects on his involvement in the project saying "I feel privileged to have been a part of this beautiful piece. At the end, I sat with Bernie Grundman mastering the end product; a sad and beautiful suite of touching musical poetry." The album's unique sound is a result of a collaborative effort that saw Dybdahl and his team recording in unconventional locations, from a small house in the high desert of California to a summer house on a small island off the coast of Norway. The Stavanger Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Vince Mendoza, added a layer of beautifully arranged strings.

Thomas Dybdahl is a Norwegian singer-songwriter acclaimed for his soulful voice, introspective lyrics, and genre-blending musical style. With a career spanning over two decades, Dybdahl has earned international recognition and continues to enchant audiences with his emotive performances and sentimental songwriting. Known for critically acclaimed albums such as "…That Great October Sound," "Science," and "Fever”, his distinct blend of soul, folk, pop, and jazz influences, coupled with haunting vocals, has left an indelible mark on the global music landscape.
