Amsterdam based sisters Sarah Julia today announce that they will release their debut EP 'How Do We Go Back To Being Normal?' on 10th April 2024 via AWAL. Following the release of their poignant debut single ‘Cairngorms’, the duo today share the EP’s second single ‘Mount Fuji’, inspired by the Japanese tale of Princess Kaguya.
Sarah Julia share, “The song is about losing someone and wondering if that person will come back to you. It’s about wallowing in the feeling of not knowing and longing for someone’s return. Julia was playing the guitar and mumbling words, the first line of the song was born out of her mumbles. Very soon Sarah remembered the story she read about princess Kaguya, and from there the story told itself.”

Following their first ever intimate live appearance in the UK in late 2023 and three succesfull performances at eurosonic/Noorderslag, Sarah Julia today announce a number of headline shows in OMERA - London, Bitterzoet - Amsterdam and AMOR - Antwerp to take place this May and June in celebration of the EP’s release. They play London’s OMEARA on Wednesday 22nd May, tickets will be on sale from Friday 1st March at 10am GMT. June 14th Sarah Julia will make their appearence on Bitterzoet in Amsterdam NL.
Sarah & Julia Nauta began exploring their artistry at a young age, acting in various series, films and theatre shows in the Netherlands, but it was music that truly brought them together. ‘Mount Fuji’ and ‘Cairngorms’ exemplify the pair’s undeniable songwriting, intertwining elements of pop and folk with Sarah and Julia’s spine tingling harmonies.
How Do We Go Back To Being Normal? echoes sounds of indie-folk both past and future, at its centre is a solid foundation of acoustic guitar, strongly spearheaded by their two voiced harmonies. Lovers of open tunings and artists such as Phoebe Bridgers, Adrianne Lenker and Joni Mitchell, the duo rely on their music as a vehicle to look inward but also as a method to travel beyond themselves.
