Pyo releases new album ‘Silver Veil’

Pyo is the project of Karel Piot, a musician, performer and producer based in Brussels. His music sits between modern post punk and the new wave of the eighties: driving rhythms, shoegaze guitars and pop arrangements that carry far more damage than they let on. Somewhere between Ekkstacy, Mareux and The Haunted Youth. Or, in his own framing: what if Joy Division got lost in a neon soaked Hong Kong. Pyo releases his new album ‘Silver Veil’ today!

Silver Veil was written over two years, in the middle of everything the first three years of Pyo made possible: the touring, the attention, the arrival at a place he had wanted to reach for a long time, and the strange emptiness that turned up there waiting for him. It is a record about existential dread, and about the far less cinematic work of learning to live next to it.

The album moves between surrender, cynicism, tenderness, absurdity, self destruction and genuine hope, often inside the same song. It does not resolve. That refusal is the point. What follows is the story of the record in Pyo's own words.

pYO SAYS: “Silver Veil is an album about falling into the pit of existential dread and the slow, painful crawl back out of it. I wanted to capture the particular kind of chaos that comes with that feeling: the moments when you think you have finally managed to rein it in, either through destructive nihilism or a more optimistic kind of relativism, only for the dread to creep back in again. Eventually, the struggle becomes less about defeating it and more about accepting its rightful place in your life, not allowing it to control you, but understanding that it may never disappear entirely.“
