Nona Kicks Off a New Era with Single ‘Something Over Nothing’
Dutch singer Nona has ushered in a new chapter in her career with a signing to V2 Records and the release of her latest single, ‘Something Over Nothing’, which dropped last Friday. This new collaboration paves the way for her third studio album, expected in the spring of 2026. Nona will offer fans a first taste of her new musical direction with an intimate show at Bitterzoet (Amsterdam) on November 1.
Born and raised in Uden, Nona made her breakthrough with her soulful voice and powerful songwriting. But after parting ways with her former label and management, everything suddenly came to a halt. “Everything stopped at once. Suddenly, I had to do it all on my own,” she reflects. She moved to Denmark to be with her partner, and it was there that she rediscovered a different version of herself. That personal journey became the foundation for a new artistic phase.
Back in the Netherlands, Nona dove into the studio. “I’ve been writing non-stop. My experiences from the past few years wrote this album.” The result is a mature, honest, and raw body of work. No overproduced pop—just an organic sound where her voice and live instrumentation take center stage. “It’s all much more genuine. You hear the instruments. And you hear me.”
If you listen closely, you’ll notice Nona laying bare her deepest emotions. “‘Something Over Nothing’ is about mutual respect and honesty in a relationship. If I’m open and honest, I expect the same in return. It’s about balance—give and take must be equal. If nothing comes back, that says it all: there’s not much to build on. Something is always better than nothing.”
Influences of soul, pop, and blues—thanks in part to her close friend Steve Bradley—continue to shape her music. Artists like Howlin’ Wolf and Muddy Waters remain a strong presence in her sound. With new material on the horizon, Nona is looking eagerly toward the future. She’ll support the upcoming album with new singles and live shows, kicking off with the Amsterdam show on November 1. Tickets go on sale Friday, June 13. “I want people to recognize themselves in my story. To find comfort in my music. But most of all, to feel that it’s real.”
