Los Angeles-based singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Dunlap is here to tell his raw and vulnerable story on ‘Common Denominator’. Highlighting Dunlap’s effortless skill at musicianship with the track recorded completely live in one-take, ‘Common Denominator’ describes the truth on what it’s like to live with autism, and to lose someone while wrestling to believe you’re worthy of loving. This stripped back recording is heart wrenching and captivating, showcasing the strength of Dunlap’s timeless songwriting.
Dunlap shares, “I couldn’t have imagined being in the studio and cutting it the morning after a breakup. I barely held it together through that last screaming chorus and we all just knew when it was done that it was the one. With absolutely no distractions, common denominator tells the raw & ugly truth of what it’s like to live with autism, losing somebody, and wrestling to believe if I’m even worthy of love at all.”
‘Common Denominator’ follows Dunlap’s previously released singles ‘Bad for Me’, ‘Crave’, ‘Could Have Been Ours’ and ‘Still Here’ which are part of his new body of work that has been masterfully crafted with some of Los Angeles’ top players. Inspired by albums like Coldplay’s Parachutes, Dunlap decided to take a studio-forward, band-driven approach to his new batch of songs and enlisted famed mixer Michael Brauer, the very person who mixed Parachutes, as well as music by John Mayer, Dean Lewis, and James Bay.
The Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter, producer, and multi-instrumentalist Dylan Dunlap developed a love for music at a very young age. At age 6, he taught himself piano to partake in a grade school talent show. At age 11, he picked up a copy of Pro Tools and crafted instrumental compositions “like time capsules.” As a teen, Dylan left the prestigious Berklee College of Music to get a head start on his music career and started busking in his hometown of Burbank, CA. Inspired by the likes of Coldplay and Mumford & Sons, he simultaneously fashioned a singular style, infusing cinematic scope and alternative eloquence into power pop. On top of his artist pursuits, Dylan has put in countless hours of work to raise awareness around mental health. In this mission, Dylan received the "Fighting Stigma Rising Star" award from the National Alliance on Mental Illness and has partnered with Global Citizen, Autism Rocks, LA’s Children Hospital, and many other organizations.
