De Staat releases their new album ‘de staat’

De Staat released their new album 'DE STAAT’. 

In April, following a two-year hiatus, the Nijmegen-based art rock band De Staat made their return with the much-talked-about single ‘THE KING’. It now turns out to be a preview of their new album ‘DE STAAT’. The new work is accompanied by an art installation and a conceptual live show, De Staat Becomes De Staat. 

Themes such as power, manipulation, misinformation and autocracy have featured in De Staat’s work before. On this new album, these themes are taken to a new level through a challenging concept. It marks their nearly 25 years of groundbreaking work in the rock landscape. 

Singer/guitarist Torre Florim on the album: “This album wasn’t a choice. The themes — power, faith, and the increasingly blurred line between reality and fiction — kicked the studio door open and never left. The world today forces us to look at it. It almost feels as though we’ve been working towards this for years without realising it, as though this is the reason why we called ourselves De Staat 25 years ago.” 

ABOUT DE STAAT: De Staat is known as one of Europe’s most inventive and fearless live acts, partly due to their constant pushing of the boundaries of what a rock band can be. From the rousing battle cries of Witch Doctor to the razor-sharp commentary of KITTY KITTY, De Staat has long explored themes such as demagoguery and mass manipulation.

De Staat have played at major festivals, sometimes even as headliners, such as SXSW, Glastonbury, Lowlands, Sziget, Boomtown, Pukkelpop and Deichbrand. The band have also toured with major acts such as The Rolling Stones, Muse and Biffy Clyro. De Staat’s music ranges from industrial grooves and heavy riffs to experimental electronica and pop sensibilities, and has been featured in global campaigns and games. In addition, their music has earned the quintet Edison Awards, 3FM Awards, multiple music video awards, a Bernays Lifetime Achievement Award and international critical acclaim.
