Between two worlds: Cristóvam finds honesty in ‘Desert of Fools’
Cristóvam releases new music today. The album, ‘Desert of Fools’, introduces 10 new tracks that mark a fresh sound and direction for the Azorean artist. The album was recorded in Brisbane, Australia, at Tim Hart’s Terrace Tone Studios. Cristóvam crossed the world to the furthest possible place form his home and headed to New South Wales to work with Tim Hart in one room.
The title, ‘Desert of Fools’, comes from one of the songs on the records, which reflects a fragile emotional state Cristóvam oftens finds himself in when he is trying to balance family life in the Azores with a music career that takes him far away. This duality, being home but missing the road or being on the road and missing home, is something Cristóvam still wrestles with. “I think all touring musicians experience it to some degree, but living so far from the cultural centres of the world only intensifies the disconnection. When I’m not touring, I often feel like I’m in limbo, never fully in one place. That feeling of never truly being present is something I think a lot of people can relate to. When your body is physically in one place, going through the motions on autopilot, but your mind is somewhere else entirely. I often find myself thinking, what a foolish place to be.”
‘Desert of Fools’ means another step forward for Cristóvam in his musical evolution. It not only introduces a refined sound but also offers a deeply personal into the heart of an artist who constantly finds himself between two worlds. The album features a surprise collaboration with Australian indie-folk icons Boy & Bear.
