Cat Power revisits a classic: ‘The Greatest’ 20th anniversary celebrated by ‘Redux’

Cat power is celebrating the 20th anniversary of her milestone 2006 album, ‘The Greatest’, with ‘Redux’, a three-song EP arriving digitally and on 10” vinyl via Domino on January 23rd, 2026.

‘Redux’ includes a brand-new re-recording of James Brown’s chart-topping classic, ‘Try Me’ out today. The track was among those first recorded by the singer-songwriter otherwise known as Chan Marshall during the original sessions that produced ‘The Greatest’ but never completed.

‘Redux’ also includes a stunning rendition of Prince’s iconic ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, recorded in tribute to the late, great guitarist Teenie Hodges, a legendary member of The Memphis Rhythm Band that back Cat Power on ‘The Greatest’ and with whom she formed a close bond before his passing in 2014. The EP also includes a re-imagined version of one of the many standout tracks on ‘The Greatest’, Marshall’s own ‘Could We’, newly recorded in the arrangement that was performed live on ‘The Greatest Tour’ with Dirty Delta Blues.

Next year, Cat Power will perform ‘The Greatest’ in its entirety with a very special series of live shows beginning in North America in February and the traveling to Europe, and the UK through early November including a show in Amsterdam (Paradiso).

Cat Power’s seventh studio album, ‘The Greatest’ proved an immediate landmark in her already acclaimed career upon its January 2006 release. The album marked the first Cat Power release to exclusively feature songs written by Marshall, performed with understated Southern soulfulness and stunning creative confidence. ‘The Greatest’ was met by worldwide critical applause while entering the Billboard 200 at #34, Cat Power’s biggest commercial success to that date. Named by Rolling Stone at #6 on its Top 50 Albums of 2006, as well #26 on its 100 Best Albums of the 2000s, the collection was awarded with 2006’s prestigious Shortlist Music Prize, making history as the first album by a female artist to be accorded that honour. The album also saw Cat Power nominated for a Brit Award for Best International Female Solo Artist in 2007. The release was followed by a marathon world tour that saw Marshall backed by Dirty Delta Blues, an electrifying supergroup named after its members’ musical origins and later featured on 2008’s even more commercially successful ‘Jukebox’.
