The duo also share a moving title track written for a dear friend who lost his battle with addiction
Los Angeles-based husband/wife duo Jim and Sam announce that their new EP, 'Saturday Night', will be released January 31, 2019, and with this news, they share the title track in two forms: a raw, stripped-back version called 'Saturday Night (Low)' and a full-band, studio version produced by Wally Gagel called 'Saturday Night (High)'.
The track is a deeply personal one to the band:
“We wrote ‘Saturday Night’ for one of our best friends, Harris Wittels, who passed away from an overdose. He was the funniest guy in every room, one of the best comedians on the planet, an underappreciated passionate drummer, and the friend we have to thank for introducing the two of us. The song is about the worry we had when his addiction began, and the guilt we were feeling when he passed away. For us, the lyric ‘Saturday night and you're all f*#ked up again’ captured the polarizing mix of high and low memories that came flooding in when he was gone. It’s about the Saturday Nights we all spent together, but mostly the nights that our friend spent alone and how we wish we could’ve been there.”
‘Saturday Night’ is also prominently featured in Jim and Sam's documentary film, ‘After So Many Days’, which chronicles their 365-day tour where they played one show every day for a year. Since its premiere at the Dallas International Film Festival earlier this year, ‘After So Many Days’ has won the Audience Award at Hell's Half Mile Film & Music Festival and was an Official Selection at Michael Moore's Traverse City Film Festival.
Originally from Philadelphia and Dallas, Jim Hanft and Samantha Yonack met at their mutual friend’s comedy show in Los Angeles and began making music together a week later. In 2015, they self-released their debut EP, ‘This Is What’s Left’, and in 2019 released their sophomore EP, ‘Yeah Whatever Young Forever’, through Nettwerk. Jim and Sam crossed over into filmmaking during their ‘Anywhere Everywhere Tour’, where they played one show every day for a year. Hopeful the tour would reveal something about what drives them to create, they picked up a camera and began to film every single day. Upon completion of the year, they recruited their childhood best friends, Natalia Anderson (Band-Aid, Life In Pieces) and Kyle Weber (Fresh Off The Boat, Modern Family), to join them in turning their perspective-shifting journey into their first feature-length documentary, ‘After So Many Days’.
