Today, Anna Calvi releases 'Hunted', a reworking of seven tracks from 2018’s 'Hunter' that features collaborations with Courtney Barnett, Joe Talbot (IDLES), Charlotte Gainsbourg and Julia Holter.
Having previously shared 'Don’t Beat The Girl Out Of My Boy' featuring Courtney Barnett and 'Eden' featuring Charlotte Gainsbourg, today she shares the release in full including 'Wish' featuring IDLES’ Joe Talbot and 'Swimming Pool' featuring her label-mate Julia Holter.
On working with the two musicians, Calvi says: “Julia has such an amazing ability to colour her music in unexpected ways. Her creativity and originality always astound me. I had no idea she was going to do a choral piece on Swimming Pool. But I was so pleasantly surprised when I heard it back. She’s added something so unexpected and yet something that feels so beautiful and perfect for this song. She is a unique talent.
Joe has such a visceral urgent energy which felt so right for Wish. However, when I heard what he sang on this song I was also amazed to hear a vulnerability to his voice that I hadn’t heard before and I found it really beautiful. Idles are one of my favourite bands so it was a dream collaboration for me.”
Rawer sounding than their original incarnations, the tracks on Hunted shine under the light of a different lens, one that brings the innate fragility of the compositions to the forefront and exquisitely melds together the dichotomy of the hunter and the hunted, the primal and the beautiful, the vulnerable and the strong.
