Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Joshua Hyslop shares his 5th full-length album, 'Westward'. While writing the new record, Josh dealt with bouts of anxiety anddepression triggered by the convergence of first-time parenthood, the deaths of two friends, and of course, a never-ending pandemic. Writing was a form of release, so Hyslop would jump at the sporadic chances to meet up with long-time producer John Raham to record. The lapse in time between these sessions partially explains why some tracks are alt-country or singer-songwriter in style while others explore Appalachian sounds or evoke Irish dirges and American gospel. He explains, “This collection of songs was a stretch for me. I wanted to try my hand at some different styles while still staying true to my voice. Getting to work with John again was a pleasure and was definitely a part of what helped me achieve that goal."
'Westward' is the latest body of work in his extensive catalog that includes his past full-length albums: 'Ash&Stone' [2020], 'Where The Mountain Meets the Valley' [2012], 'In Deepest Blue' [2015], and 'Echos' [2018]. Hyslop has accumulated over 300 million streams worldwide and has carved out an impressive diehard fanbase with praise from the likes of American Songwriter, Earmilk, NPR, Exclaim!, and many more.
