The Vaccines release new single 'Headphones Baby'

The Vaccines today release their new single, Headphones Baby, a first glimpse into the world of the band’s upcoming fifth album, the follow-up to 2018’s Top 5 charting Combat Sports, which will follow later this year. An upbeat and wildly confident return from one of the UK’s biggest and best loved groups, the single points to a thrilling year ahead from The Vaccines, whose comeback is - and we can’t not say it - the shot in the arm that 2021 so desperately needs.

Headphones Baby was recorded during album sessions in El Paso that saw The Vaccines reunite with producer Daniel Ledinsky, well known for his work with Rihanna, TV On The Radio and more, and who previously produced the band’s 2019 hit, All My Friends Are Falling In Love. Additional production for the single came from Fryars who, outside his own artist project, is a regular collaborator with Mark Ronson, and it was mixed by Andrew Maury (Post Malone, Lizzo).

Says Justin Hayward-Young of Headphones Baby: Sometimes life can leave you feeling numb and desperate to feel something. ‘Headphones Baby’ is about creating an escape from that - plugging in to plug out and cocooning yourself from the reality of the outside world in the warm embrace of somebody else’s mind.

The song should sound like a fireworks display - a call to arms. And if you want life to feel like it’s permanently in technicolor then we might know where you can find it…”

The Vaccines have spent the past year perfecting the forthcoming album, initial recording sessions thankfully having been completed before the world shut down. With the band members scattered around the globe, they were able to pull everything for the LP, from the mixing process to artwork and band photography, together remotely. They also found time to record a series of covers for their recently released Cosy Karaoke EP1, and celebrated the tenth anniversary of their platinum debut, What Did You Expect From The Vaccines.

The Vaccines are Justin Hayward-Young (vocals, guitar), Freddie Cowan (guitar, vocals), Árni Árnason (bass, vocals), Tim Lanham (keyboards) and Yoann Intoni (drums). Since the band’s inception they have sold over two million records worldwide, from their breakthrough debut onwards, each of their four albums so far have charted in the Top 5 in the UK, with second album, Come Of Age, hitting #1. Multiple Brit, NME, Q, Mojo nominees, live, they play at arena level and are long standing festival favourites in the UK and internationally.
