Garrett Kato releases new single 'Control'

'Control' is the first single from his upcoming EP

Canadian-born, Australia-based singer-songwriter Garrett Kato shares new song ‘Control’ along with an official video. The first single from his upcoming EP (details forthcoming), 'Control' explores the idea of life being a dream and waking up means leaving this world entirely to a new frontier.

“The inspiration for ‘Control’ was the basic idea of letting go,” says Garrett. “So many times in my life, I would question why things occur the way they do. Some find comfort in gods while others find safety in a salary with benefits. I’m learning to be comfortable with the simple idea that we can’t control our own existence. The unknown is scary but can often unveil the deeper meanings of life.”

The official music video, directed by Glenn Mossop (Mos and Co), is a narrative-based, off-kilter accompaniment to the song and includes cameo performances from other local musicians. The video portrays Garrett being kidnapped by a cult and reaches its pinnacle with him coming face to face with the cult leader, all taking placing amongst the picturesque setting of Byron Bay.

Hailing from Canada, Garrett Kato moved to Byron Bay (Australia) in 2010 after spontaneously quitting his day job to pursue his passion for music. After busking and performing five gigs a week, Garrett is now having his songs synced with box office hits in the US, touring internationally; all the while running his own recording studio, producing for a string of Australian indie folk acts including Ziggy Alberts, Kyle Lionheart, Pierce Brothers and Riley Pearce.

With over 20 million worldwide streams on Spotify to date, Garrett is looking ahead to further international and national touring dates, and releasing a stunning collection of brand new music.

Garrett is soon to be heading off on a co-headline UK/Europe tour with fellow Australian indie artist Riley Pearce. The 16-date run of shows, starting on September 12th in Oslo, Norway, will take Kato across major cities throughout the EU and UK, and will wrap in Dublin, Ireland on October 10th.  A full list of dates is below.
