Badly Drawn Boy new single 'I Just Wanna Wish You Happiness'

New album 'Banana Skin Shoes' out May 22nd

Badly Drawn Boy, aka Damon Gough, has announced that he will release a new single through AWAL on the 24th of April 2020.

‘I Just Wanna Wish You Happiness’, the follow up to the recent and acclaimed singles ‘Banana Skin Shoes’ and ‘Is This A Dream?’, is the latest track to be shared from his forthcoming album ‘Banana Skin Shoes’ which is set to arrive on the 22nd of May.

Beautiful, embracing and loving, the new song sees him alchemise the trauma and heartache of a break - up into a song of salutation to his ex and has moved Gough to state that: “It’s a song which accounts the breakdown of my relationship with my ex partner and mother of my two older children. About maintaining a tone of dignity through the breakup process and ultimately wishing that person happiness. I hope it’s the only breakup song I have to write, as I am now happily married”.

‘I Just Wanna Wish You Happiness’ will be accompanied by a special live performance video which was shot in Stockport and directed by the filmmaker Tom Gilfillan.

The new album sees Damon pushing forward yet again both musically and lyrically whilst retaining some of his classic trademarks. The bulk of the production was completed at Eve Studios in Stockport last year with producer Gethin Pearson (Kele Okereke, JAWS) who also mixed the whole record. Damon had previously worked on tracks for the album with legendary producer Youth (The Verve, Paul McCartney) at his studio in London, Keir Stewart (ex-Durutti Column) at Inch Studios and Seadna McPhail at Airtight Studios.

Always one to wear his heart on his sleeve, Gough’s ninth album and first studio album in a decade is a truly personal and heartfelt collection of songs, a huge statement of intent and the most glorious, colourful warming, honest pop record you’ll probably hear all year.
